It opens with an almost raw feel about the sound but, this quickly switches with an injection of deep bass and it kicks into life.
The riff and tone was very classic in style, harking back to that Sabbath-esq sound but, as the vocal came in, I was immediately put more in mind of a young Rob Halford.
That same energy, grit and impressive range became clear for all to hear and the performance was flawless – annoyingly almost effortless too (check out the wee scream about two minutes in).
The rhythm section was solid, the bass rumbled away nicely and the guitar playing had an air of authority about it. The solo was pretty sublime and was like a warcry reminding the listener that there was more to this track than an impressive voice.
For a debut single, this is stunning, I think.
In short, “If Sabbath, Priest and Alice In Chains had a wean, it’d be Neon Black!”
