MOVIE & TV STREAMING
‘Roku Streambar’
So, recently, after years of using a Now TV box to stream TV and movies via various apps, I was forced to seek something new due to my son wearing out the remote control (Seriously, he is a demon with a remote). Once I discovered that the compatible remotes didn’t have volume controls and that the genuine one was £40, I went on the hunt for other options.
After hours of trawling the web, it became apparent that NOW TV had ceased to make boxes and that the “new kid” in town was Roku. They had a few options, Roku Streaming Stick, which allows for 4K viewing and is a very neat and discrete product which plugs into your TV directly via the HDMI port or the Roku Ultra LT which is a more traditional “set-top” box that uncannily resembles the Now box that i was seeking to replace. But then, something caught my eye…
Enter the Roku Streambar. What is that? I hear you ask. Well.. It is a very compact speaker or “soundbar” as they call thembut, it has all the streaming capabilities built in. One issue I had with my existing TV was that, if watching a movie say like The Fast And The Furious, the sound effects and music totally drowned out the spoken content. The blurb for the Streambar indicated that the unit had settings to improve this and allow the user to adjust the settings to be able to hear spoken word a lot easier so, I set about reading some reviews and many confirmed this. So, my choice was simple, my mind was made up and I ordered one.
It arrived next day and I wasted no time in wiring it all up – which was very straightforward and the only tedious part was having to enter my logins for the apps that I use (and subscribe to) and I set about seeing if the hype was true.
To cut a long story short, it was and I was happy with my purchase. So was my son who, noticing a working remote control, relieved me of command and popped it swiftly over to YouTube. Job done!
Would I recommend the Roku Streambar? Absolutely!
